It was my first time in South America, and little did I know the kaleidoscopic and natural wonder that was waiting for me in Colombia.

When your best friend tells you to go to South America for a “foodie focussed” trip, there is no way you’ll say no! Coming from Puerto Rico, the plane ride was relatively short.  And after a series of airport unfortunate events, we finally got to the cutest and artsy Hotel Viaggio in the heart of Chapinero Alto, Bogotá. It was like arriving in a mural junkie’s dream!

Bogotá can surprise you with some of the most colorful streets you will ever have the luck to walk. There isn’t one corner that is not splashed with vibrant colors, either for fun or social criticism, the streets of Bogotá are the living message of its citizens.

Bogotá has a touristic hook for every type of visitor. If you’re a foodie like me, interested in getting to know the local flavors of every country you step foot on, Colombia will definitely not disappoint. From their famous stuffed “Patacones” (fried plantains), chorizo, arepas, and street food (platanutres and churros), to say that you’ll end up licking your fingers doesn’t even begin to describe how delicious it is.

Such a beautiful city with breathtaking tourist destinations like the underground Salt Mine which has a cathedral (Salt Cathedral) inside with the biggest wooden cross in the world. I’m talking about a 2km long mine in which you’ll probably have one the most inspiring experiences in South America. The Cerro de Monserrate, which is the highest point of the city, gives you a splendid panoramic view of a city which screams culture and color. And for those looking for a history fix, La Plaza de Bolívar will give you the historic breeze you’ll need. This city is the perfect balance between young and historic, delicious and artsy.

Thank you Bogotá for showing me your colors.
