Las 50 De La Loíza Part Deux

They say that the only constant thing in life is change, and this is exactly what happens with urban art every day. You think you’ve visited and seen all the murals in a specific street, and out of nowhere, a new group of murals and graffiti emerge. With the project #Las50 de la Loíza which I previously talked to you about, this is what happened; it started getting bigger and bigger, and now the parking lot I showed you is completely covered with art from artists from and outside of Puerto Rico.

Starting with the graffiti artist, Elektrotypes who used one of the walls to create a colorful and bright mural space with shapes that look just like vibrant flowers.

Then you have the amazing collaboration by Fisu00 and Reiblinky. This characteristic bird that has made Fisu so famous in Puerto Rico, can be found practically anywhere in the Metropolitan area of San Juan. There are so many of it scattered around the city in corners and spots where you would least expect it. But this specific bird you have to see in person. The mix of both artists, with Reiblinky’s outlines and color palette, is pure perfection.

There’s also another colorful collaboration at #Las50 parking lot by MrDadonehda3 and Line Up. It’s a mural of a beautiful and strong black woman.

Right beside it, you will find one of Andrea Baez particular and sensual women’s body shaped murals. She is known for mixing the femininity of a woman’s body with the beauty of nature. She goes by the artistic name of Yum and you can find these women scattered all around the Metropolitan area as well, just like Fisu’s birds.

Other artists like Shitty Robots, Andrés Cortés and Fulana also joined this #Las50 family, filling every space and corner of this parking lot.

You can also find the widely famous Bear Champ by JC Rivera in the parking lot. This huge mural was the perfect way to end a day of mural hunting in San Juan. And although last time I visited, this parking lot was closed ( looks like someone bought it and is going to open a new restaurant) jumping the gate and taking these pictures was totally worth it.

And since the parking lot was completely filled with art in every single corner, the murals started taking over other blocks in calle Loíza. The latest addition to the #Las50 was a family collaboration by EpicUno and his nephew, who already painted in this group, the amazing Andrés Cortés (mentioned above in the collaboration with Shitty Robots). I had the really fun opportunity to see them paint this mural from scratch and it was truly awesome seeing a dull and boring wall become such a masterpiece. With the positive message of “Siempre hay oportunidad” (There is always an opportunity), this mural located on the side wall of the restaurant Panuchos in calle Loíza, gives a splash of super needed bright colors and optimism, just like the message behind it.
